Thanks to generous alumni, friends of UMD, and faculty and staff, more than $14-million were raised in fiscal year 2019.

“Our donor’s gifts make a huge difference in the lives of our students,” says UMD Chancellor Lendley (Lynn) Black. “They create scholarships, fund experiential learning, research, and so much more. We couldn’t do all that we do without their generosity.”

Ongoing campaign
In 2011, a ten-year capital campaign was softly launched. In 2017, Driven. The Campaign for the University of Minnesota Duluth went public. Its theme is “Wanted: The Adventurous and the Generous.”

UMD’s campaign has four main priorities: student support, experiential learning, faculty and research, and outstanding facilities. UMD seeks to raise $120 million by 2021. As of June 30, 2019, UMD has raised $111,712,421.

“Our goal for student support was to raise $42.5 million. Thanks to our generous donors, we’ve already surpassed that and have raised $45,359,303 as of fiscal year 2019. Our donors have established 137 new scholarships. That’s a 35 percent increase since the campaign began,” says Chief Development Officer Tricia Bunten.

“We continue to fundraise for student support because the need is so great among our students. Students who receive scholarships can participate more fully in campus activities because they have to work fewer hours, and they graduate with less debt,” Bunten says.
